Day 1 and Day 2 - Air Port at Katunayaka to Sigiraya

Introduction About Sri Lanka

The country is formerly known as Sri Lanka. There are different kind of name for Sri Lanka as Ceylon, Thaproben, Pearl of Indian Ocean. The official name of Sri Lanka is the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. It is an island in the Indian Ocean separate from the India. Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte is legislative capital and Colombo is commercial city in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's documented history goes back 3,000 years, with evidence of prehistoric human settlements that dates to at least 125,000 years ago. Sri Lanka has a long history of engagement with modern international groups. Today, Sri Lanka is a multinational state. Those are Sinhalese, Tamils, Moors and Burghers. The Sinhalese are the majority of the nation's population.




Minneriya National Park

Experience “The Gathering,” a name given to the elephants that assemble on the banks of the Minneriya Reservoir during the dry season. According to wildlife authorities, the Minneriya gathering is the largest grouping of wild Asian elephants at any given time. View the famous elephants as they graze on the grasses growing on the tank bed. Perhaps you’ll spot any of the park’s diverse wildlife, including leopards, sloth bears, deer, wild buffalo, wild pigs, grey langers, purple-faced leaf monkeys, porcupines, and assorted birds.




Sigiriya Lion Rock fortress

Sigiriya Lion Rock is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District at sigiriya in the Central Province. It is a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock approximately 180 meters (590 ft.) high. It was built by king Kashyapa in Sri Lanka. He built his palace on top of this rock and decorated its sides with colorful frescoes. before building his palace in here, It was a Buddhist monastery. He built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion on a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock. The name of this place is derived from this structure as the Lion Rock. Sigiriya is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site and it is one of the eight wonders of the world. It is one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning.




Village Tour at Habarana

Dambulla Cave Temple

Dambulla Cave Temple is the largest cave temple in South Asia with a large number of murals. It's located in the Central Province of the Matale District. This is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex. It's respected by Sri Lankans as well as foreigners, especially Buddhists. The Dambulla Cave Temple is famous, because there are large gold color Buddha statues, ancient caves temples and murals. Dambulla Cave Temple is also a World Heritage Site Declared by UNESCO.



Day 3 - Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa

Activities -

Polonnaruwa

The modern town of Polonnaruwa is also known as New Town, and the other part of Polonnaruwa remains as the royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa. The second oldest of all Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first established as a military post by the Sinhalese kingdom. It was renamed Jananathamangalam by the Chola dynasty after their successful invasion of the country's then capital, Anuradhapura, in the 10th century. The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best-planned archaeological relic cities in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom's first rulers. Its beauty was also used as a backdrop to film scenes for the Duran Duran music video Save a Prayer in 1982. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Polonnaruwa is the second largest city in North Central Province, but it is known as one of the cleanest and more beautiful cities in the country. The green environment, amazing ancient constructions, Parakrama Samudra (a huge lake built in 1200), and attractive tourist hotels and hospitable people, make it a tourism hotspot.Another draw for tourists is the city's population of toque macaques. The monkeys have been living in the ruins since the human occupation and continued to thrive there long after the humans left. The city is dotted with temples, shrines, palaces and ruins. Explore the royal palace from the period of King Parakramabahu I (1153 – 1186). Once a massive structure with 50 rooms, today impressive walls still stand strong. Lion sculptures guard the stairs to the king’s audience hall, where intricately carved stone elephants line the walls and the king’s swimming pool with large crocodile mouth statues spout fresh water. An impressive collection of ruins forms the sacred quadrangle and in the middle is the vatadage (ancient structure) with four entrances leading to the place where the Sacred Tooth Relic was once housed. Explore the large stupa (hemispherical structure containing relics) Rankot Vihara and the monks’ quarters. A tribute built to the king’s queen, Dagaba Kiri Vihara is a perfectly preserved dagaba, lovingly repainted by devotees. Marvel at the massive 17m (55ft) Buddha statue at Lankatilaka and you can see big statue of Buddha at Gal Vihara, cut from one slab of granite. Built of stone, Hindu Temple No.2, in Polonnaruwa is tucked away in a small forest clearing.



Day 4 and Day 5 - Polonnaruwa to Kandy

Activities -

Wake up to the beautiful Peacock chirpings in Sigiriya.

Savor breakfast at the hotel.

Check out and Proceed to Kandy.

Kandy Lake

Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake in the heart of the hill city of Kandy. It's built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. It is a protected lake, with fishing banned. There are many legends and folklore regarding the lake. There is a connected secret tunnel also.




Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - Kandy

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is very famous among Buddhist people in the world as well as others. because there are enshrined Gautama Buddha’s tooth relic. The present Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is located in Kandy in Sri Lanka. During the Kandyan period, it was located in the existing royal palace complex.The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic was first built by King Wimaladharmasuriya in Kandy Kindom. The 32 buildings in Kandy, including the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic have been declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.



Day 6 - Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

Royal Botanic Gardens

Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya are about 5.5 km to the west of the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It is near the Mahaweli River (The longest river in Sri Lanka).[2] It is renowned for its collection of orchids. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees.[3] Attached to it is the "National Herbarium of Sri Lanka". The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres (0.59 km2), at 460 meters above sea level, and with a 200-day annual rainfall. Royal Botanic Gardens Peradeniya attracts approximately 2 million local and foreign visitors annually. It is managed by the Division of National Botanic Gardens of the Department of Agriculture and the National Herbarium of Sri Lanka is attached to it as well. the origins of the Botanic Gardens date as far back as 1371 when King Wickramabahu III ascended the throne and kept court at Peradeniya near the Mahaweli river. The Botanical Garden at Peradeniya was formally established in 1843 with plants brought from Kew Garden in London, Slave Island, Colombo, and the Kalutara Garden in Kalutara and it was made more independent and expanded under George Gardner as superintendent in 1844, after which it was controlled under a few superintendents till it was taken under the control of the Department of Agriculture in 1912.




Tea Factory

It's Introduced in 1867, Ceylon Tea has grown to be the top agriculture export in Sri Lanka and provides direct and indirect employment to nearly 1 million people while around 4% of the country’s land area is covered in tea plantations amounting to nearly 203,000 hectares. Sri Lanka’s tea-growing areas are mainly concentrated in the central highlands and southern inland areas in the country. Sri Lanka’s tea-growing areas are namely Nuwara Eliya, Uda Pussellawa, Uva, Dimbula, Kandy, Sabaragamuwa, and Ruhuna. Each area produces a uniquely flavoured world famous Ceylon Tea.

Galle Fort

Galle Fort is in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. It was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 432 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by the Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka. The galle fort has been declared as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.




Turtle Hatchery

Turtle Hatchery in Sri Lanka is a sanctuary that works on increasing the rate of survival of baby turtles on the island. The centre functions mainly as a hatchery and makes huge efforts to increase the rate of hatching, and survival of baby turtles in their very initial stages. However the Care centre also works on sick or injured adults; treating them and releasing them back into the ocean. They also run volunteer programs and awareness programs for local and international visitors.




Madu River

The Madu River is very rich in biodiversity. It passes through the wet zone of Sri Lanka opening up into the large Madu Lagoon on its way to the Indian Ocean.
